Traveling beyond your familiar surroundings contributes to expanding your world view and life experience, both as unique to yourself as it becomes to your art. The fascination of new scenes and subject matter helps the artist to infuse freshness and awe inspiring responses communicated in the work.

Most of my travels center on water after over thirty years of boating in the Great Lakes, Atlantic and briefly Pacific Oceans. I feel most at home on or near the water so my work reflects that. Like Monet, the ever-changing reflections in the water inspire many paintings.

Some of those travels have taken to me to France, painting everywhere Monet painted, the Caribbean, Central America and further north. It is always rewarding to me when a tourist who has enjoyed a particular area purchases a painting from me of that area. It is a way to share the memory with her and take a part of that place home with her as a constant reminder, and hope of returning one day.

May 2005 found us back in the Bay Islands of Honduras. It had been 24 years BC (before the kids went to college) since we had been there chartering a CSY sailboat and resorts seemed to spring up from everywhere. The reef is the big draw in Roatan and diving and snorkeling are prime activities as well as belaying the canopy, hiking and horse back riding. Although I got a swim in on the "naughty" beach and snorkeled most of my time was spent painting the scenery while the divers were away. It was lie having your own private villa complete with friendly staff, good food and conversation.
It was definitely an R&R vacation with a view! Reading a good book in the hammock and enjoying the spectacular sunrise, sunset and moonlight were all free!
A gallery show is planned for the fall from the ten small studies that were completed. Information will be posted as time gets closer. Until then, enjoy the views of Paya Bay, Roatan Hondurus!
